Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland Ohio
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland Ohio. Have you ever been??? I grew up loving music. I was blessed to be in the very first vocal jazz group for 3 consecutive years at Pleasant Hill High School (The Ascensions) and after I got out of the Air Force and attended the University of Oregon, I sang in the concert chorale, directed by Royce Saltzman (who started the Oregon Bach Festival) and in the UO vocal jazz group. Music can stir, rest and inspire the soul. WHERE would we be without it?
Recently I spoke to the Akron Ohio Professional Photographers group for an all day seminar. The following day I had a few hours to kill before I flew back to Oregon, so Art (great name for a photographer) took me and one of his buddies to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland-which sits on Lake Erie (below).
The museum itself (on the left) was designed by the famous architect I.M. Pei. That is the Progressive baseball field in the background. (right)

Why Cleveland? The man who got it out of the shadows and into the light: Alan Freed.
Trying to do the Air Guitar bit....Cleveland does Rock!
Here are some of my favorite images inside the hall;
Janis Joplins' Porsche
They showed films of all the greats that are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and what year they were selected. When they are inducted in April, they usually perform for those lucky enough to score tickets.
Here is one of the main entrances(four levels):
They also had a wall with all of their inductees signatures...had to get this one (along with Taylor Swift, he is one of my all time favorite individual artist):
Some nice exhibits of famous rockers.
James Brown outfits:
The Beatles of course (my favorite group of all time):
Michael Jackson's outfits and glove:
Supremes
Taylor Swifts' first guitar and her handwritten lyrics of Change.
The family couch of Jimi Hendricks and some of his memorabilia.
Lady GaGa outfit.
Elvis Presley's army uniform:
Chuck Berry:
First records and an early mixing board.
Rolling Stone Magazine (J Lo's outfit and a letter from Charles Manson).
One of the special features (they change the exhibits all the time), was on Paul Simon and portraits by the famous photographer Herb Ritts (1950-2002). He has photographed probably more rock legends than anyone. So it was a special treat for me. Here are just some of the wall portraits on display.
Loved this quote. Its not just see and snap....
Great Museum, well worth going to Cleveland to see it. OH10, it was fun! I grew up "borrowing" my older brothers' Elvis Presley records, remember seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan (and became a huge Paul McCartney fan) and have had many favorite artists and songs thru the years. I guess it usually is the song for me over the artist.
I've gone to concerts from Neil Diamond, Over the Rhine, Justin Bieber (thanks to my then 14 year old daughter...one of the few men in the crowd, lol), Judy Collins, and Pink Martini to name a few.
What has been the most awesome concert you've been to?
Who is your favorite musical artist?
